A River to Enjoy

Two of America’s clearest and most beautiful spring fed rivers make up the Ozark National Scenic Riverways, the first national park area to protect a wild river system. The Current and Jacks Fork Rivers wind through a landscape of rugged hills and towering bluffs.

Canoeing is the most popular way to enjoy the park. Other activities include camping, hiking, hunting, fishing and horseback riding.

		Alley Mill The famous “Old Red Mill” was built in 1894. Enjoy the beauty of the bright red mill sitting next to the turquoise waters of the spring. Learn about the lives of the Ozarks’ first European settlers. Open daily during the summer months, weekends only in May and September and October.

		Caves & Springs The Ozarks are world famous as an area of exceptional caves and springs. Over 300 of each are known in the park. Several springs, such as Big Spring, Alley Spring, and Blue Spring are among America’s largest. Round Spring Cave offers tours in the summer only.

Ranger Programs

Demonstrations of traditional Ozark skills are a popular type of program. You may also enjoy a slide show, nature hike or cave tour with one of our professional ranger naturalists. They’ll help you learn about the nature and history of the Ozarks in a fun and enjoyable way. Program schedule.

Special Events are held throughout the year such as concerts, special hikes, storytelling events and craft demonstrations.

Floating

Floating the river in canoes, kayaks or even inner tubes is a great way to see the Ozark Riverways. Arranging a float trip is easy, just contact one of our canoe rentals and they'll handle all the details.
Remember, your life jacket won't save you if you won't wear it.

Climate

Summers are generally hot and humid while winters are mild with periods of very cold weather and possible ice storms. Spring and Fall are especially pleasant. Thunderstorms are frequent and sudden in the summer months and a downpour can ruin an otherwise enjoyable outing. Flash floods are a risk at all times of the year. In general, the National Park Service will close the river to canoeing and boating when the river level reaches two feet above normal.
